This righteous slab of spalted elm sits atop poplar legs and a cherry apron to create a truly unique piece of live edge furniture. The black linear patterns seen at the edges of the table top, called spalting, are caused by the early growth stages of a specific fungus. In this piece, they provide the perfect complement to the wandering grain pattern and pastel color scheme of unstained elm. A prominent live edge graces each side of the hourglass shaped top. This table now resides in the home of the client who commissioned it, but another like it can be built to your specifications.

Live Edge Oak Dining Table

This rustic dining table was handcrafted from red oak milled in Caroline county,VA. The natural edge on the 1 1/2″ thick top was preserved and sanded to a beautifully smooth finish, memorializing the long life of the oak tree which made this project possible. Walnut dovetail inlays stabilize the cracks which occurred during the drying process, providing interesting contrast which accentuates the naturalistic feel of this piece. Intense figuring on the outsides of all four legs lends a subtle elegance to the robust heft of this grandiose table. I chose a polymerized tung oil finish for this table to keep the look as organic as possible while providing a durable, easy to maintain,and waterproof finish.
