Mid Century Modern Compact China Cabinet by Bassett Furniture

This compact Mid Century storage piece by Bassett has two fixed interior shelves behind glass doors, and a lower cabinet with one adjustable shelf. Rounded rectangular relief patterns adorn the lower cabinet doors and are emulated in the glass panels on the upper doors providing a sense of continuity. A lovely rounded platform accentuates the upper and lower sections adding depth and complexity. Perched on slender tapered legs, the cabinet doors have lightly patinaed brass hardware that can be polished to a shine if so desired. <SOLD> This is a gorgeous walnut china cabinet from the Profile series by Drexel. The upper section has two adjustable interior shelves with frosted glass panels. Each shelf can be adjusted by three levels. The sliding glass doors have simple nickel inset pulls. There is a recessed interior lamp to provide subtle back-lighting for your art, curios, or china. The bottom half has two shorter drawers and one wide drawer that extends the entire width of the piece. Two cabinets with fixed interior shelving flank the center drawers. Solid ash wood trim frames this beautifully designed cabinet. The utmost top has a gentle slope terminating in a cantilever which mirrors the front edge of the main surface below. This cabinet is made from a solid poplar frame overlaid with walnut veneer and a warm amber finish. Measures 48″W X 21″D X 72″H. Sold for $599 on 10/08/16

-SOLD- This Mid-Century Modern walnut china cabinet from Drexel’s Declaration line arrived at our shop in immaculate condition, and began to truly sparkle after we gave it a gentle cleaning and staged it with some groovy 1960’s glassware. Highlights of this piece include sliding glass panels with original porcelain pulls, original tinted glass shelves,richly figured select walnut veneer, and original light fixtures in all cabinets. Tastefully molded trim adorns the casing and doors, attached with elegant v-cut wood joints evocative of Chinese cabinetry.
The slightly receding angle of the upper section of this cabinet creates a relaxed feel which brings a feeling of spacious repose to any room. The generous horizontal and vertical space beneath the lowest shelf make this piece perfect as a bar, as well as a credenza or display cabinet. A well placed light in the bottom cabinet ensures efficient use of all the storage space therein.

The finish on this Mid-Century gem is exemplary in that it shows no discoloration from light exposure whatsoever. When you behold it in person, you will see the exact hue and texture that the maker intended. As we were informed by the 1959 Drexel Declaration pamphlet we discovered in the top drawer, a light application of laquer over tung oil is responsible for the gorgeous amber tone found in all the Declaration Line pieces.
