This rare mid-century modern rattan and bamboo chaise is one of the most eye-catching pieces of outdoor furniture we’ve ever seen.  It is truly unusual to see lines and contours like these on vintage patio furniture. Despite the slender profile, this chaise is as solid as most metal and wood-framed chairs. It is in excellent structural condition with no signs of disintegration of any materials.  It is as  comfortable as it is stylish, giving support where needed and cradling the body in a posture of alert  repose.

Mid Century Modern Walnut Credenza by Basic Witz

Modest rosewood diamond inlays behind solid brass conical pulls on each drawer is the distinguishing feature of this mid century modern walnut credenza by Basic Witz. There are two sizable drawers running across the top portion with two cabinet doors beneath.  Each door is accented with a vertical solid walnut strip.  One long, continuous built-in shelf spans the length of the interior.  This buffet was manufactured by Basic Witz, a furniture company located in Waynesboro in our home state of Virginia. Basic-Witz Furniture was in business from 1889 into the mid 1970s, when it was bought by Stanley Furniture, another company based in Virginia.  This vintage storage piece has been completely refinished in our workshop and a minor veneer repair has been made that blends seamlessly with the rest of the piece, barely visible to the naked eye. Close up photos of these repairs have been included. This case piece can be used as a buffet in a dining room, as a media console for your widescreen television, or as a storage piece in any room.

Finding a Mid Century Modern piece manufactured using solid wood is a rarity. Most furniture from this era was solid wood overlaid with high quality veneer to make it more affordable for the middle class. This vintage secretary made of solid walnut is an exception to the norm. This clever storage piece doubles as a desk with multiple compartments to organize your bills, mail, and assorted paperwork. Four small, smooth gliding drawers with circular brass pulls adorn the top section. A solid walnut panel occupies the center which can be pulled down to reveal a small work space or “desk” complete with drawers, cubbies and cubicles. There is plenty of space for stamps, paper clips, envelopes and writing implements; everything you need to get the job done. With its narrow footprint, this space saving piece offers extra storage with three full sized drawers on the lower section. Those drawers are accented by gorgeous elliptical walnut pulls attached with brass cones. No one will ever guess what’s behind that center panel.

Danish Modern Teak “Desk in a Box” Secretary

This rare cleverly designed “desk” folds into itself and appears to be a sleek teak cabinet.  The doors have sculpted teak handles and each door swings open on heavy piano hinges to reveal spacious storage with adjustable shelves, wooden files and a compartmentalized drawer.  Interior also has a locking compartment with functioning key.  In excellent condition, this Danish Modern designed teak “desk” closed measures 32″W X 20″D 44″H.  The “Desk in a Box” fully opened measures 65 inches wide and the work surface measures 54 inches wide and 18 inches deep.  This innovative Danish design is a great space saver and an excellent way to keep your office “private” when guests arrive.

Burnt Orange Mid Century Style Sofa by Kroehler Furniture

This burnt orange, terra cotta color is my favorite tone for warming up a room.  This mid century modern style sofa was manufactured by Kroehler Furniture, a well known and respected name during the mid mod era of furniture design.  This contemporary reproduction has all the earmarks that we love in mid century design:  a sleek profile, tapered legs, and cylindrical bolster pillows.  Two rows of understated buttons on the back pillows add the final touch. Though mid century in design, this sofa is a bit more lofty and has a higher seat height than vintage sofas.  With soft but supportive foam, this cozy sofa rates high on our list of comfortable seating options.   Has a seat height of 18 inches.
