This exemplary Danish Modern Teak Surfboard coffee table merges sleek, sophisticated style and practical functionality. It is a masterpiece of Danish minimalism designed by Grete Jalk for Glostrup Mobelfabrik in the 1960s. Long enough to pair with an extra- mid-century sofa, it draws the eye to the center of the room, conveying a sense of levity and motion. The sculpted trim which runs the length of the top flatters the table’s elegantly curved profile while keeping all your accoutrements safely on the tabletop. A slatted shelf offers plenty of space for reading materials or other articles to be kept out of sight. Stylishly tapered legs set off the dramatically cantilevered top, allowing it’s elliptical profile to be the center of attention. The legs, base, and trim are solid teak, and the main surface of the top is clad in matching teak veneer. This beautiful coffee table maintains it’s original finish, with minimal signs of wear appropriate for the age of the piece. It is in perfect structural condition. There is a barely noticeable separation of veneer on one corner of the top which has been stabilized. This can be seen in photos 2 and 3 below. Otherwise, this is a museum quality piece.
