This extremely rare collector’s bench from the mid twentieth century was designed by T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings who worked as a designer for the Widdicomb Furniture Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan from 1943 to 1956. This vintage bench has a mahogany frame with original cotton webbing and original leather Widdicomb label attached. The foam is usable, but will eventually need to be replaced. The fabric is original and in good condition. The sofa from the same line is available separately.
Known for his preference for classical Greek furniture design, Gibbings was the most important decorator in America in the late 1930’s and 1940’s. His interior design concepts were touted as shaping the modern American home.
