This is a set of six, extremely rare, Mid Century Modern dining chairs by Lane of Altavista, Virginia. These chairs very clearly represent the American adoption and imitation of the principles of Danish Modern design using American materials. The astute observer will no doubt recognize the rounded minimalist elements commonly observed in Danish teak chairs of the period, here realized in solid ash with veneered walnut backrests. Constructed of solid wood and walnut veneer, all wood frames have been expertly refinished. Adapting our native tree species to mimic the prolific teak chairs being imported to our shores during the 1960s was an important step in the development of American Mid Century design. The comfortable seat cushions have been reupholstered in a sensible, wipe-able black vinyl. With a Danish Modern style, these simply designed vintage chairs have been professionally restored, are structurally sound and in excellent condition.
