Description
This beautiful Moroccan Berber Flatweave Rug was purchased new from a merchant in the town of Tabant in the Atlas Mountain Range. The wheat colored background is adorned with bright, simple geometric motifs surrounded by a simple brown border. Both undyed and vegetable dyed wool is used to create a lovely contrast between an earthtoned background and brilliant foreground colors. This carpet was selected from many, specifically for its color scheme, which I did not see duplicated during my time in Morocco. This is a unique piece of Berber folk art which represents a centuries-old cultural tradition. It is comprised of Moroccan sheep’s wool and a cotton fringe. In Morocco, many rugs are used interchangeably as floor coverings, seat/sofa covers, or wall hangings. This carpet is suitable for any of those uses.
