Description
This hand knotted Moroccan Berber rug was produced and purchased new from the Co-op in the village of Aguerd N’ouzrou in the Azilal province located in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains. The undyed sheep and goat’s wool were harvested and spun in the village by the artisans who created the carpet. The character of this yarn gives the rug a soft, fuzzy texture that feels great underfoot. The fringe is cotton. The irregular abstract pattern seen here seems to be unique to this particular co-op, and gives the impression of a hide rug. Each rug produced here is unique- the women of the village work together on each piece taking turns when they are available, and many patterns are improvised depending on the feeling of the artisans on that particular day. This lovely earth-toned carpet will be equally at home in bohemian, modern, or traditional decorative style.
