This coffee table was designed and handcrafted by Richmond’s own Nathaniel Newcomb. It is a one of a kind piece built for the 2017 Visual Arts Center Annual Teacher Exhibit. The materials are Black Walnut, Mahogany, and Oak arranged in a geometric mosaic layout which accentuates the complementary tones of the three featured hardwoods. Traditional wood joinery makes this table exceedingly sturdy while providing pleasing visual accents. It is a table meant to be viewed from every vantage point, displaying a different set of angles from each point in the room. This geometric dynamism is a hallmark of Newcomb’s work. Some pieces imply a sense of motion; this one inclines the viewer to move around it. This particular table will not be duplicated, but custom work is available upon request.
