Mid-Century Sculpted Wood Lamp with Vintage Capiz Shell Shade

SOLD

mid century modern sculpted wood table lamp capiz shell shade

<SOLD>  This mid-century modern sculpted wood table lamp is topped by a vintage capiz shell lamp shade which provides a unique quality of warm, natural illumination. The capiz, or windowpane oyster, is native to the Phillipines and surrounding areas, and has traditionally been harvested  for it’s translucent inner shell.  Fisheries are now heavily regulated due to population decline, but stunning examples of the capiz shell in vintage lighting are still available.  The capiz shell filters light in a manner not unlike mica, but are usually lighter and hence produce more white light. This shade is in perfect condition and features a metal grid framework inset with diamond shapes which accent the larger rectangles of shell material. The style is close to arts and crafts, but will also work well in a mid-century modern or contemporary setting.

The lamp features a tasteful combination of brass and dark wood, with curves that reference modern sculpture and danish design.
